Frisco's permitting setup
Frisco moved its building permits onto an online portal — Citizen Self Service — several years ago, which makes submission faster than most surrounding cities but adds a digital-account requirement. We submit through our contractor account so you don't need to create one.
What it costs
Standard residential fence permit fees in Frisco typically range $60–$95 depending on linear footage and gate count. Pool barriers and corner lots may add $25–$50 for additional plan review. Verify current rates on the City of Frisco website.
Application requirements
- Site plan showing fence location, property lines, easements, and existing structures
- Materials specification — wood, height, post depth, gate locations
- HOA approval letter (most Frisco subdivisions)
- Contractor license verification (Woodchuck Millwork's Plano license satisfies Frisco's contractor requirement for residential fencing)
Timeline
Standard residential: 5–10 business days. High-volume weeks push closer to 10 days. The portal is faster than the old counter-submit model, but it adds a digital review step.
HOA approval runs separately and is the slower of the two for most Frisco subdivisions. Phillips Creek Ranch, Stonebriar, and Plantation Resort typically take 2–4 weeks for architectural review committee approval. Plan the total project timeline around HOA, not the city.
Inspection
Frisco does one inspection at frame stage. Inspector verifies post depth, concrete presence, plumb, setback, and that the as-built matches the submitted site plan. Re-inspect runs 1–2 business days if corrections are needed.
Frisco zoning and height rules
- Front yard: 4 ft maximum height. No solid privacy fencing in front-yard setback.
- Back and side yard: 8 ft maximum.
- Corner lots: First 15 ft of side yard adjacent to street follows front-yard rules.
- Pool barriers: 48 inches minimum, code-compliant gate hardware.
- Easements: Fence cannot impede access to utility easements; drawing must show.
HOA-specific notes
Frisco's newer subdivisions are HOA-heavy and have specific material requirements:
- Phillips Creek Ranch: Cedar only, semi-transparent stain in approved colors, no horizontal fencing in some sections.
- Stonebriar: Cedar board-on-board preferred, 8-ft maximum, dark stain required on visible street frontage.
- Plantation Resort: Cedar with full cap, picket gates only, no automatic gate hardware.
We submit the HOA packet with materials samples and have working relationships with most architectural review committees in Frisco's primary subdivisions.
